What If Al Gore Had Lived In Ancient Greece?

Long, long ago in a Grecian city far, far away there lived a man named Albertus Goreus. While most of his class of citizens were content with their lives, Albertus felt unloved. And, so, one summer's day as he sat upon the steps of the temple of Zeus, he noticed how warm the air was. Albertus stared at the sun. How bright it shone! He could feel the heat pouring from the giant, golden orb of Apollo. Ten minutes later, as he was being carried away from the temple because he had stared at the sun to long, he thought, "Oh, my! The world will be burnt to a crisp if I don't do something about it!"... READ MORE

In Vienna, Virginia a man named Thomas Sheplar took in an orphaned squirrel which he named Oedipus. One day Oedipus was skippering around the backyard when Thomas caught sight of a hawk. The hawk caught sight of Oedipus and apparantly thought, "Umm, squirrel chops." Thomas went inside and grabbed an old shotgun and killed the hawk before it could kill Oedipus. Unluckily for Thomas, a police office was in his neighborhood and had heard the shot. Thomas explained the situation to the officer- then he found himself in the backseat of the patrol car. The patrolman (who must have been bored for something to do) charged Thomas with discharging a firearm in a public place and cruelty to animals.

First of all, a backyard is not a public place. The last time I checked it was considered private property(that is it WAS considered private property. Did this country turn Communist without notifying me?).

Secondly, how is killing a hawk to save a squirrel cruel? Wouldn't it be considered cruel to the squirrel if Thomas had allowed the hawk to kill it? Has the world gone nuts (pun intended)?

So, as a word of caution to all of you hunters out there, do not shoot any more animals. That is cruel and you will be arrested. Instead find an animal that is already near death and wait for it to die.

I'm not a hunter, but this news article leads me to believe that some wacko in Washington DC will make killing an animal a felony one of these days.

This police officer must be a liberal.

The discharging of the gun might stick, hopefully get down graded or removed. But the cruelty to animals charge is crap. You can defend your pets from other animals, even other protected animals, such as hawk, with deadly force.
